CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Academic instruction ends at 2:25 pm, but over half of our students stay on at school to participate in a wide variety of clubs and athletic activities during the afternoon session.

ATHLETICS

The Boys' Cross Country team has won several state championships; Class D State Championship in 2012 and 2013 and Class C State Championship in 2017. They have also been finalists in our region and champions in the OCIAA league in 2015 and 2016.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Boys' Soccer Team has been regional champions since their initiation in 2015. They earned the state championship title in 2017.

BOYS' SOCCER

The Girls' Soccer Team began in 2019, and is doing well in their first season.

GIRLS' SOCCER

VOLLEYBALL

The Girls' Volleyball team is competing in their second season this fall. Last year they made it to the state semi-finals.

ENVIROTHON

The Envirothon team competes on the regional, state, and national level. The team has won six state titles and two national championships. In 2018 they took 1st place at the NCF National Envirothon competition.

SCIENCE OLYMPIAD

The Science Olympiad team has consistently placed in the top ten teams at the New York State Science Olympiad competition.
They have won five regional championships with multiple gold medalists on both regional and state levels. In 2018 they placed 4th at the New York State Science Olympiad competition.

MOCK TRIAL

The Mock Trial team are two-time State finalists. They have won three county championships and two regional championships.

The Chess team competes in the Mid-Hudson Scholastic Chess League, where they have won several trophies. In 2018 they won the Mid-Hudson Scholastic Chess League championships.

CLUBS

Studies of key movements in art are accompanied by the creation of artwork that explores the style studied. Participants gain familiarity with famous artists, movements, and themes, and have opportunities to create artwork using a wide variety of styles.

ART HISTORY

Students practice public speaking, voice projection, character building exercises, and learn the arts of script writing and staging a play.

COMMUNICATIONS AND DRAMA

Participants learn techniques of drawing and painting, and complete several finished pieces using a variety of media and styles.

STUDIO ART

Students learn this skilled trade by studying welding theory, and through practicing and mastering welding processes including Oxy-fuel cutting and welding, SMAW (stick), GTAW (Tig), and GMAW (Mig). Many pass and are awarded the rigorous  American Welding Society's 3G Qualification. Advanced students hone their skills with fabrication projects, and may be selected to participate in the Skills USA Welding Competition.

WOODWORKING

Students learn basic skills of carpentry, and gain experience in the use of hand tools, the study of wood types and their applications, as well as planning, drafting, and techniques of wood finishing.

Working with textiles, preparing food, and caring for children are some of the areas covered in this course. Time management and budgeting concepts are also developed as students explore life skills in this domestic science learning opportunity.

HOME ECONOMICS

Students have the opportunity to build outdoor structures such as lean-tos, gazebos, and pavilions using traditional construction methods instead of relying on modern fasteners and power tools. Students may find themselves making and using hand tools such as slicks and froes, as well as more familiar hand drills and crosscut saws.

OUTDOOR CONSTRUCTION

This club involves the understanding and care of The Mount Academy property. Projects may include turf grass care, viniculture, landscaping, forest management, field management, animal husbandry, and aquaculture.
